About this site
Novated Check is a free, independent calculator for Australian employees weighing up a novated car lease. It was built because many novated lease calculators online are run by lease providers and ask for contact details before showing a result. This one shows the whole calculation and asks for nothing. It is published by an individual, non-professional publisher with no link to any employer, lessor, lender, salary-packaging company, the ATO or Treasury.
Where the figures come from
Every rate, threshold and rule comes from a primary source listed at the bottom of each page with the date shown on that source: the ATO’s rates and thresholds pages, its FBT guidance and legal database (TD 93/142, GSTR 2001/3), and Treasury’s exposure draft and explanatory materials for the 1 April 2027 changes. The calculation code is tested against the worked examples the ATO and Treasury publish. All rules were last checked on 1 October 2026.
The 2027 changes
The electric car FBT changes for leases signed from 1 April 2027 are not law yet. The site shows them as proposed, next to the current law, and checks their progress in Parliament regularly (last check 1 October 2026, next by 1 November 2026). When the bill passes, the pages switch in one place and the calculator is re-tested against the final text.
Update schedule
- June: the new luxury car tax thresholds and car limit for the year from 1 July.
- July: new personal income tax rates, if they change, and Medicare levy thresholds.
- 1 April: FBT rates, gross-up rates and EV home charging rate for the new FBT year.
- Whenever the 2027 bill moves: introduction, amendments, Royal Assent.
